As of my last update in early 2023, sports betting in North Carolina was limited. The state passed legislation in 2019 that allowed for sports betting on tribal lands, specifically at the two casinos operated by the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians.
The first sportsbook opened at Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort in 2021. This sports betting operation is limited to in-person betting within the casino. Online sports betting was not permitted under the original legislation, but there has been discussion and interest in expanding sports betting to include mobile and online platforms.
